Be in The Moment and Stay Focused
Last week we asked you to slow down a little bit. Did you? If so, you are ready for the next step which is to be in the moment and to stay focused. Being in the moment requires that you be fully present in a conversation, or activity. Mary Kay was famous for her focus and being present in the moment. Whenever someone was talking to her, she gave them 100% of her attention, never breaking eye contact, and truly listening to what they were saying, even when surrounded by hundreds who wanted her attention. Those who had the pleasure of meeting her, remember what it was like to feel that attention, and to feel special. To develop this habit, we need to first understand what keeps us from being focused and in the moment. Here are a few distractions: Your cell phone, your things to do list, or the less than interesting person or conversation you might be in. What do we do then? Get bored and look for distractions. Does this sound familiar? This week let’s begin to eliminate a few distractions. You will instantly start to feel calmer and more engaged. Those around you will see the difference too!
Something to Think About
We work in an industry where we are expected to be available 24/7, or are we? Who created that expectation? Us or the consumer? Do you expect your attorney or your doctor to be available whenever you have a question? No, we wait for them to get back to us because they are worth waiting for and so are you. Set limits with your time and set expectations with regard to your availability. Here is an example: Mr. & Mrs. Seller, you might have noticed that my cell phone has not rung. That’s because whenever I am with a client, I give them 100% of my attention, and my phone is always turned off. This ensures that I don’t forget anything that might be important to you. Please keep this in mind when calling, texting or emailing me with a question. I will always answer when I am not busy or on an appointment. I assure you that if you leave a message, I will always get back to you ASAP.
Weekly Challenge
This week let’s start disconnecting by turning off your cell phone for the following: Listing appointments, meals, and the last hour before bedtime.
